Composite fillings are one of the most versatile restorative treatments we offer to our patients. When you have decay, small chips, or minor cosmetic flaws, Dr. Tatiana Herzog may recommend composite fillings to restore your smile.
The most notable feature of composite fillings is the ability to match them to your tooth color. Composite fillings come in a variety of shades to match your teeth so your restoration is not noticeable.
Diagnosing Dental Decay (Caries)
Most decay we diagnose at both our Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton locations is found at your regular dental exam. At your preventative appointments, we visually inspect your teeth as well as take the necessary x-rays in order to effectively diagnose and treat any conditions that arise.
Dental decay is caused by bacteria in your mouth. Brushing, flossing, and regular professional cleaning appointments can help to protect your teeth, but occasionally, you may still have decay. We do our best to find and treat caries quickly so that your treatment remains simple. Decay does not go away on its own and will likely get bigger over time if left untreated.
Most patients have no symptoms of decay. If decay causes pain, it is likely advanced and may require more extensive treatment like a root canal or crown.
Composite Filling Restorations
When one of our expert dentists diagnoses dental caries, we will get to work right away to help restore your teeth to excellent health. Our gentle dentists will carefully remove any decay and sterilize the area to prevent a recurrence. Then, we will prepare the surface of your tooth so that it can bind with the composite material.
We will choose a shade that matches your natural teeth and apply the composite material in layers, curing it with a special light to harden and strengthen it. When all of the layers are complete, we will do the final shaping and polishing so that it looks and feels completely natural.
Cosmetic Dental Bonding
If you have a small chip in your tooth or an unsightly gap, we may be able to treat your condition with dental bonding using composite material. Dental bonding is a cost-effective and non-invasive method to treat minor aesthetic issues that do not require a more complex treatment like a crown or veneer.
If you have any concerns with the appearance of your teeth, we encourage you to discuss them with one of our dentists.
